3 Job Search Office Tools You Thought You Didnt Need

3 Job Search Office Tools You Thought You Didn't Need 37 A good desk, comfy chair and a computer just isn't enough. This is a guest post by Joe Linford. If you’d also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. A productive desk area is one that's well-organized so you can find anything you need quickly. A productive desk area is one that's comfortable for you to focus at, so that you aren't distracted by discomfort or anything else. A productive job search desk area is one that has what you need to find a job fast.eval 3 Surprisingly Important Office Tools For Job Search Success 1) Filing system Job searching over the Internet, you might never have any paperwork worth filing, but there are still cases where you can't avoid it: Diplomas Applications Certifications Offline media mentions Hardcopy samples from your work portfolio (for security reasons, employers may not let you keep digital versions) Anything with someone else's signature, such as reference letters Depending on how big this pile is and how often you add to it, you may want a file cabinet with folders by subject and date.eval Otherwise, a simple accordion folder should be ok and small enough to carry when you need it. 2) Writing utensils stationery Regardless of whether your job search involves piles of documents, you will still need writing utensils. Letter writing can be a critical part of a successful job search. If you can write LinkedIn recommendations, you can write recommendation letters for others, and should. (For maximum effect, do it without waiting to be asked.) Just as important is to make yourself memorable by sending thank you letters, especially after job interviews. And there's nothing more professional than to send a handwritten letter on your own stationery, including your personal logo or other personal branding elements. 3) Business card organizer You will collect business cards on your job search. And you should. Your collection will grow from the job interviewers you see, from the networking events you visit, from the random meetings with people who might be able to help you or you them. Most people will simply put the received cards in a box or in a desk drawer, never to be looked at again. But if the cards were organized in a useful manner, you would look at them again. While mini business card-sized file cabinets get the job done while looking cool on your desk, I prefer a business card binder that you can browse through and add pocket pages as needed. Just be careful to sort the cards according to how you will search through them in times of need: by profession, by industry or just alphabetically. 3 Tips for a Happy and Healthy Marriage

3 Tips for a Happy and Healthy Marriage Fairy tales often end with ‘and then they lived happily ever after’. The story is in the pursuit and the courtship. But what happens after that? ‘Ever after’ is a long time. What if the prince forgets to put his socks in the hamper each night? Or the princess always left the top off the toothpaste? What then? Marriage is difficult. Yes, it is beautiful and magical and romantic. But it is also hard work. Things go wrong, and people grow and change. Sometimes differences are irrevocable. In those situations, the dream marriage is guided to a practical conclusion by divorce attorneys. This is not something we plan for when we walk down the aisle but, sadly, it is a fact of life. What can we do to ensure that our marriage remains a happy and healthy one? Listen This sounds easy, but it’s not as straightforward as you think. You know the scenario where you’ve had a long, frustrating day at work. You’re tired, and all you want to do is sit back and watch something ‘easy’ on the TV. But your partner is talking and talking and talking. You’re only half listening because you’re putting the groceries away and trying to put the dinner on. This is natural. Of course, there will be times when you’re tired and distracted. But try not to make it the norm. If you’re frequently distracted and not engaged, then this could cause problems. Try to make a time when you and your partner can talk uninterrupted. Go out for a drink. Talk over coffee. You could have a standing date where you sit in your favorite coffee shop or deli and chat about the week and what’s going on in your lives. Listen to what your partner has to say. Don’t Try to Change Each Other You married your partner for a reason. You feel in love with them for a reason. So why would you want to change them? We all have habits that annoy other people. The frustration and annoyance can escalate a little when you’re living with someone. Try not to let those things mount up and take over. If there are things your partner is doing that is driving you nuts then talk to them about it. Perhaps start with, “Is there anything that I do to annoy you?” Discuss those things and laugh about them. You could make a pact for each of you to make a small change. You need to pick your fight with this one. Nagging at someone over every little thing they do will get you nowhere. Learn to let things go. Also, read our article on how to spot there’s a problem in your marriage. Keep it Interesting Sometimes everyday life takes over. We get bogged down with work, the house, bills, etc. And it can feel like a treadmill. It is inevitable that this happens sometimes. But make sure you don’t let it swallow you up. Keep things fresh and interesting. Suggest a date night in the middle of the week. Surprise your partner with a fancy meal and candles. Arrange to go on a trip together or start a new hobby together. Be unexpected and spontaneous. Try not to let things get stale and mundane. Marriage is a marathon and not a sprint. It is something to work at. When it becomes difficult or mundane, try and remember the reasons you fell for your partner in the first place. Find ways to recapture those feelings. Listen to each other and be present. Do These 4 Things Daily to Stay Productive Every Day - Classy Career Girl

Do These 4 Things Daily to Stay Productive Every Day Today I have a bonus for you! It’s a special FB Live recording I did in January that was so popular and had such great feedback that I wanted to bring it to the podcast as well. It’s about the 4 things you need to do daily to stay productive. Let’s face it, we are in February now, you may be slowing down on your goals, getting a little tired, maybe it’s cloudy and snowy and you just have lost all motivation. Don’t worry, it’s just a matter of putting a few little habits back into your day and you’ll be able to turn around your motivation quickly and get back into the game. So let’s do this! Subscribe  on  your favorite platform below: iTunes Google Play Music Stitcher Radio TuneIn iHeartRadio Sound Cloud How do you feel about your day? Do you have a to-do list: What do you do every day to stay productive? Note: If you want a copy of our daily to-do list template, click here. KEY CHANGE I MADE ONE WEEK AGO: I am in control of my schedule. How can I work 4 hours per day? How can I work 2 hours per day? The book Deep Work by Cal Newport really influenced a lot of the things. I wasn’t getting focus time. I’ve been waking up early. I’ve been filling out our Classy Career Girl Planner with these 4 things and doing them every single day. They work!! I am creating my schedule the day before and my priorities the day before. I am having wrap up time at the end of the day. I have gotten so much done this week and it’s been an amazing week. I finally feel in control of my life and on top of what needs to get done. I feel ahead of the game. I have less stress. I know I can meet my goals. I’m working out daily. I’m reading. I’m doing my good habits. I am productive. Do These 4 Things Daily to Stay Productive Every Day Please feel free to ask questions on Instagram! I will be happy to answer them. Step 1: Set Your Priorities   If you woke up feeling like you have a million things to do, you arent alone. They key is to write down your priorities. What are the most important things that need to get done? What are those small baby steps you can do that will help you reach your long-term goals? Those are your priorities! When you know your priorities before the day starts, it will help you focus and decrease the overwhelm of all  the things you feel like you need to do. I complete my to-do list the night before so I know the first thing to do when I wake up in the morning. I ask:  What’s the one thing I can do that will make everything else easier or even unnecessary? Your action:  Write down your priorities for the day the night before. This will keep you on task and motivated! Step 2: Create Your Affirmations   What are affirmations? They are something you do daily that describe a goal in its already completed state. We believe so highly in the power of affirmations that we added them to our new Create Your Future 90-day Planners (they are back in stock NOW!!). On your daily planning sheet, we created a section to write your daily affirmations. It is something I do every day, and I want you all to get into the habit of doing affirmations. So, how do you create affirmations? I did an entire blog post and podcast on how to create effective affirmations. Listen here. Note: We believe there is no right or wrong way to create and write affirmations. Do what works for you to help you stay positive and dont worry if they are written perfectly. And heres a blog post with a list of affirmations for entrepreneurs and job searchers. A few of my favorites lately I have been writing down are: I will create the most extraordinary life I can imagine. There are no limits to what I can achieve. I am 100% committed to becoming the person I need to be. My goals are possible. Your action: Share one of your favorite affirmations in the comments below. Lets inspire each other and give each other some good ideas of what to write. And if you arent sure what to write yet, just say that you are still getting ideas! Step 3: Share Your Gratitude When you aren’t grateful, you won’t receive more in return. Gratitude is all about giving thanks. Ungratefulness is taking the things in your life for granted. You are taking instead of giving if you are ungrateful. When you’re grateful for the things you have, no matter how small they may be, you will see those things instantly increase. You will be happier when you count your blessings. The more gratitude you feel, the happier you will be. Studies show people who practice gratitude have closer relationships, are more connected to family and friends and are viewed more favorably by others. This is exactly why I make it a habit in my morning routine to write down three things I am grateful for each day. It just makes me happier and gives me a better outlook for the day. Your action: Share what you are grateful for in the comments below. Bonus points for adding a photo! ?? Step 4: Brain Dump All Your Priorities, Then Set Your Top Priorities     I know you have a ton of to-dos whirling around on in your head right now. Am I right? Now its time to list them all out. Do a brain dump of all the things you should do today. Dont worry! You wont be able to do them all, but it will help decrease your stress to get them out of your head and onto paper. Remember, none of these items are your top priorities. They are just items you should do. You might have laundry on here. Or checking email. Posting on Instagram, etc. These are tasks you should, do but arent necessarily going to help you reach your goals today. Each day youll complete your top 3 priorities first and then head to your other important items section. Or you can set an hour in your calendar each day to complete these other items. Your Action: Share a selfie of you and your finalized daily to-do list! We cant wait to see! Note: If you want a copy of our daily to-do list template, click here.
